Kaelriyu - Ancient Ties Stir

Saviors of Rena Ciel
The party rises from their defeat to free an entire kingdom.

After their fateful encounter with Diaz, the party found themselves in the care of Alicia Milbourne, the daughter of the late head priest of Rena Ciel. Unable to move on after her fathers demise just prior to the events that caused its dead to become unable to pass on, she moved onto a cottage on the cliffs just south of New Town. It then came to light that Splug was not really Splug, but a doppelganger in disguise by the name of Yotoka Mariko. Given his loyalty thus far, the party had no qualms allowing the doppelganger to continue to join them on their travels.

Deciding to put their revenge on Diaz on hold due to a lack of information, they put their sights on freeing the captured Rena Ciel. The party decided to split up: Twicky the Rogue head back to Rena Ciel, while the rest of the party made their way to Crossroads to attempt to gather reinforcements. There, 2 of them made their way to the central spire and spoke with its lord, Traekael Dukrae. After a lengthy discussion, the 2 emmisaries managed to convince Traekael to send his forces to aid the undead swarm from Old Town in a pincer-style attack. Splitting the forces of Cientoria in such a manner devastated their ranks, and made the party’s advance to the lords manner much easier. There, they met the leader of the occupation of Rena Ciel, Lord Fran Monroux. After taking him down, along with the mass confusion of the combined forces of Crossroads and Old Town, the Cientorian forces abandoned and retreated to Sita de’Ferro.

Now, the party has several options, but may find themselves motivated to get their revenge upon the evil Diaz.

The party falls
The party succumbs to the terrible power of Diaz

The party, after felling the dragon, were gravely wounded. Although most of the party could go on, they were forced to return to town in order to find reinforcements, and also let Splug join them on the front lines.

They found that the cave led them to a crypt, and many fell to the powerful undead lying within. With the Warlock’s amazing recovery, he managed to revive the party, who interestingly became zombies upon death. Back in action, they felled the undead and upon inspecting the crypt further, encountered the fallen king of Rena Ciel.

The party promised to rid Rena Ciel of Cientorian’s forces, in exchange for trying to allow him to pass on with his brother’s aid. Their escape from the crypt however was marred by undead forces turning upon their necromancer, and then the party themselves. After defeating the final undead forces, they met a figure they’ve only heard about till now.

Their attempts to run fruitless, the party ultimately fell to his inhuman power. Just before the last of the heroes fell, the Warlock heard him say “and that makes three…”

End of Usai
The heroes slay Usai and reveal Korin's devious plot

The heroes advanced through the dugeon, navigating a puzzle in a large compass chamber then encountering several abominations of nature. Continuing along the path they find the man responsible…

Usai Helbit, Korin of Windshadow’s very brother.

Using Usai’s alchemical knowledge to destroy his lands crops on purpose without leaving traces of true magic, he planned to extort money from his people in order to hire false mercenaries to deal with the problem, only for Usai to recreate the blight once again later on.

The party could not agree on what to do with the alchemist, but ultimately the man lost his life, and the crystal taken from its place before the blight could be reversed. The crops must now regrow naturally.

One they exited, they were greeted by Shai Adae who was awaiting their return, and for them to hand over the crystal. The group decided to keep the crystal, as her threats to take the crystal by force were unfounded.

Once they returned, they revealed Korin and Usai’s plans who were incarcerated by the town guard, and Windshadow was turned over to Lady Raeka Helbit of only 15 years. Windshadow must now evacuate, its people abandoning its home, and attempt to relocate to its rival settlement, Ashkan.

The party is now taking a ship towards Rena Ciel, a town recently captured by Cientoria.

Enter Windshadow

The party arrived in Windshadow to despair. It’s crops dying by some unknown blight, they were approached by the town’s guard captain, Derik Arkor, and asked to investigate the strange activity on the northern road, to see if it has anything to do with the towns current troubles. The adventurers they hired with tax revenue missing, the party agreed to act in their stead for no pay.

After dispatching bandits protecting the path for some reason, they arrived at an abandoned flour mill to see an old acquaintance, Shai Adae, surrounded by corpses of some iron-plated dog-like creature. Battered and fatigued, she requested that the party act in her stead in recovering a powerful crystal hidden inside. Splug and Shai remained behind as the party descended into a hidden elevator into a lost dungeon.

The story so far
A summery

The party, traveling to the town of Winterhaven, came to settle their own agenda’s. However, they soon found that a greater evil was behind all the goings on, in the form of Kalarel, a cultist bent on unleashing his death god, Orcus, upon the land.

Before handling the fiend, the party began to investigate the area further. Discovering the ancient castle from which an old keep Winterhaven built upon originated, they found it contained a shocking array of ancient technology, including crystal engines and alchemy labs. Here, they encountered a group of Shadar-Kai, natives to the shadowfell, attempting to extract a large crystal they referred to as a “gatecrystal.”

These shadar-kai, along with black-scaled kobalds and a fierce young dragon, appeared to all be under the command of a mysterious figure named Diaz, who appeared to be using Kalarel.

Although the party managed to steal the gatecrystal from them, its capture was short lived as its host fell victim to Kalarel’s dark gate during the final battle. It’s two remaining members quickly recruited more help, and decided move on, their job complete.

Arriving at Konschat, the party rescued a small boy, Smitty McKraken, from a group of fierce drakes. Once the Caravan they traveled with began to depart, they arrived in Windshadow.
